Contact Ink & Soil

Project size

A lovely thing about working with Ink & Soil is that you can come in with a small need (a one-off article or a grant review) or an ongoing project (communications strategies, whole-book developmental editing, a series of organizational facilitation workshops), and we’re nimble enough to assemble the team to do it.

Workflow management

As a former magazine editor, Lisa is a stickler for deadlines. As a human being, she is sympathetic to the essential concept of flexibility. This applies to Ink & Soil’s clients as well as our contractors. Every project starts with a management plan that outlines timeframes and expectations that work for everyone.

Pricing

This is the part no one likes to talk about, right? Let’s say we operate on budgets, not on vibes. We’ll start by talking about your budget. If it’s possible for Ink & Soil to fit into it, we will. This is not the team that aims for getting the highest amount from the client, just the right amount to do the best job.

Personality

By personality, we mean you’re getting to work with real people. AI is a tool, and sometimes we’ll use AI for research and organizational purposes. We never use AI for generative purposes. You will not receive a file from Ink & Soil that was written or designed by anything other than a human. AI cannot make editorial judgement calls and simply doesn’t know your audience the way we know your audience. We will be as transparent about AI use on your project as you’d like us to be.

Getting started

Let’s kick things off with a getting-to-know-you Zoom.

Ahead of the call, Lisa will send some questions for you to ponder that can help structure our time together, because sometimes that hour flies by. We want to respect your time.

We’ll hear your concerns, learn about the opportunities and challenges you have ahead, and get a sense for how we might want to work together. If all goes well—and honestly, it so often does—Lisa will put together a proposal, bringing in other consultants, writers, designers, etc. as needed. With luck, we’ll have a good thing going in no time.
